The AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund (LAF) provides funding and a support system for women seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination in higher education. Since 1981, LAF has helped students, faculty and administrators challenge discriminatory practices involving harassment, denial of tenure or promotion and aid for women’s athletics programs. LAF has provided more than $700,000 in financial support—plus thousands in technical assistance—for 65 lawsuits. AAUW is the nation’s leading advocate for education and equity for women and girls.

SUPPORT FOR ONGOING CASES

Comprehensive profiles of these and other LAF-supported cases are available at our  Association website or through LAF at laf@aauw.org, 202/785-7750.

YOUR SUPPORT MAKES LAF'S WORK POSSIBLE

The continued support of AAUW members and friends allows LAF to provide more significant case awards to more courageous women fighting sex discrimination on college campuses across the country. The LAF board and staff are grateful for the people who have invested in helping women succeed. To date LAF has awarded more than $700,000 in case support and provided hundreds of hours of phone consulting and technical assistance to women facing unfair treatment on campus.

With your continuing support, LAF can continue to provide women with case awards, initial advice, resources, and referrals to find the answers and support they need.

Please remember that all gifts to LAF are tax deductible. LAF can also accept corporate matching gifts. Simply send the paperwork to AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund, 1111 Sixteenth St. N.W., Washington, DC 20036. Staff will fill out the forms and process the documents. AAUW branches and states receive credit for matching gifts.

LAF staff can also help you achieve your individual or branch fundraising goals. For ideas and information, please call 202/785-7750, fax 202/785-8754, or e-mail laf@aauw.org.

MAKE A LASTING GIFT TO LAF

Make a gift to LAF through your will and leave a lasting legacy for women. You may also receive a significant tax advantage.

The simplest form of a legacy gift is the bequest-a gift left to a charity in your will. (LAF is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization  under IRS regulations.) Bequests often allow donors to make a sizable gift that they cannot make during their lifetime.

In a simple bequest, the donor gives a stated amount to a nonprofit group with no conditions. A bequest gift is excluded from your estate for estate tax purposes, often giving donors a tax advantage. Simple bequest language usually reads:

I give and bequeath to the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund (Federal  Tax ID# 52-1232075), a charitable organization duly existing under the laws of the District of Columbia and located at 1111 Sixteenth St. N.W., Washington, DC 20036:  *dollar amount of gift, or * percentage of estate, or * description of securities or real property, to be used as the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund Board of Directors may direct.

You can help LAF put an end to gender bias in higher education by making a gift through your will. You can also name LAF as the death beneficiary of your life insurance policy, bank account, stock account, or retirement plan. For more information on legacy gifts, contact Amy Falk at 202/728-3303 (laf@aauw.org).
