Qualified and enthusiastic candidates are being sought to serve on the 2009-2011 state board of directors,  The following positions are open:

·         Vice President for Program, 2009-2011

·         Vice President for Public Policy, 2009-9011

·         Treasurer, 2009-2011

·         President Elect, 2009-2010, succeeding to President, 2010-2012

Nominating Committee, 2009 for 2010 elections (3members and 1 alternate) 

A strong belief in the mission of AAUW, active branch involvement and willingness to learn and grow are important attributes for these positions.  Rewards for state service include leadership development, camaraderie and teamwork with other leaders.  There is the opportunity to enjoy friendships and activities that benefit the state membership.  An applicant may be self-nominated or nominated by your branch, board of directors, or any individual.

Attached is a brief description of position responsibilities and a vita sheet to be used for nominations.  These items may be duplicated as necessary.  Nominations are open for the period of September 15 to November 15 and may be received at any time up to the closing date, mailed to the address below.  Please note that the signature of the nominee is required on the vita sheet.

The nominating committee will present a slate of candidates to the membership at the 2009 state convention in Owatonna . The vita sheets of other applicants will be forwarded to the president to aid in filling the appointed board positions.

Please give serious consideration to applying for a state board position.  These leadership positions provide a great opportunity for you to share your talents with AAUW Minnesota State .  We need you.  Thank you.

AAUW MINNESOTA STATE POSITIONS OPEN:  BRIEF DESCRIPTION

 NOTE:  All on-board positions have general responsibilities to participate in board meetings, make decisions relating to state operations, communicate with branches,work with branch activities, and serve when designated as a leader on loan to branches.

Position/Term:          Vice President for Program,  2009-2011

  • Assume the duties of the president in the president’s absence.
  • Serve as chair of the program committee and be responsible for convention program planning and workshops in consultation with local hosts, the president and board of directors.
  • Serve as a member of the finance, public policy, membership, and branch newsletter award committees.
  • Assist branches in developing programs through leadership training, group dynamics, and program techniques

Position/Term:           Vice President for Public Policy,   2009-2011

  • Serve as chair of the public policy committee and a member of the program and convention resolutions committees.
  • Draft a proposal of state public policy for presentation to the state convention for consideration and adoption.
  • Implement Minnesota AAUW public policy.
  • Provide information and leadership to the branch public policy chairs.
  • Coordinate and activate legislative work reflecting the public policy program and be responsible for working with the legislature to present the AAUW position.

Position/Term:           Treasurer,  2009-2011

  • Assume responsibility for the collection of all state dues and other monies due the state.
  • Serve as custodian of all funds, securities, and business papers.
  • Present a detailed financial report to the executive committee and board of directors at each meeting.
  • Submit an annual written financial report to the state.
  • Pay all budgeted bills when properly verified by the person incurring the expense.
  • Recommend to the board of directors the investment of state AAUW funds.
  • Serve as a member of the finance committee and participate in the annual audit.

Position/Term:           President-Elect,  2009-2010 succeeding as President, 2010-2012

  • Become acquainted with the functions of AAUW Minnesota and the office of state president.
  • Carry out such duties as assigned by the president and the board of directors

Position/Term:          Nominating Committee, 2009 for 2010 elections

  • Serve on the committee with 2 members of State Board.
  • Be prepared to meet by conference call or in-person to discuss nominations.
  • Review nominations in order to recommend candidates for the open offices.
  • Assist in recruiting nominees as needed.
