“Share Your Talents with Minnesota
AAUW”
Qualified and enthusiastic candidates are being sought to
serve on the 2008-2010 state board of directors. The following positions are
open:

Secretary
2008-2010
- Vice President for Educational Foundation
2008-2010
- Vice President for Membership
2008-2010
- Vice President for Legal Advocacy Fund
2008-2010
- Nominating Committee: 3 members and 1 alternate, 2008
for 2009 nominations
A strong belief in the mission of AAUW, active branch
involvement, and willingness to learn and grow are important attributes of these
positions. Rewards for state service include leadership development, camaraderie
and teamwork with other leaders, and enjoying friendships and activities that
benefit the state membership. An applicant may be self-nominated or nominated by
your branch, board of directors, or any individual.
Nominations are open for the period of September 15 to
November 15 and may be received any time up to the closing date, mailed to the
address below. Please note that the nominee’s signature is required on the vita
sheet.
The Nominating Committee will present a slate of candidates
to the membership at the 2008 state convention in St. Paul. The vita sheets of
other applicants will be forwarded to the Co-Presidents to aid in filling the
appointed board positions.
Please give serious consideration to applying for a
state board position. These leadership positions provide a great opportunity
for you to “share your talents with AAUW Minnesota!”

AAUW MINNESOTA STATE
POSITIONS OPEN: BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Note:
All on-board positions have
general responsibilities to participate in board meetings, make decisions
relating to state operations, communicate with branches, work with branch
activities, and serve when designated as a leader on loan to branches.
Position/Term:
Secretary/Historian 2008-2010
- Record and report the minutes of state board meetings
and the state convention membership meeting.
- Serve as the ex-officio member of the state convention
minutes-condensing committee.
- Be responsible for collecting and preserving the
historical record of AAUW MN
- Compile an annual history of AAUW MN
- Have copies of past minutes available at all state board
meetings
Position/Term: Vice
President Educational Foundation, 2008-2010
- Serve as chair of the Educational Foundation committee
and as a member of the program committee.
- Provide for the implementation of the Educational
Foundation programs on fellowships, research and projects.
- Recommend to the state board the allocation and
disbursement of the current fellowships contributions received fro the
branches for presentation at the state convention.
- Explain the educational Foundation program to the
branches; promote the program in the state.
- Collect EF contributions from the branches and keep
track of branch contributions each year.
Position/Term: Vice
President for Membership, 2008-2010
- Act as the presiding officer in the absence of both the
president and program vice president.
- Serve as chair of the membership committee and as a
member of the program committee.
- Understand the requirements for membership committee and
work with the branches to promote membership, including the promotion of
diversity.
- Endeavor to increase membership within branches and in
establishment of new branches.
- Have jurisdiction over new branches and during this time
provide them with assistance.
Position/Term: Vice
President for Legal Advocacy Fund, 2008-2010
- Serve as chair of the Legal Advocacy committee and as a
member of the program committee.
- Provide for the implementation of the Legal Advocacy
Program in the state; promote the program.
- Collect LAF contributions from the branches and keep
track of branch contributions each year.
- Design, plan and organize in conjunction with the
Program committee an LAF fundraising event at state conventions.
- Arrange for LAF litigants to speak at state conventions.
Position/Term: Nominating
Committee, 2008 for 2009 elections
- Serve on the committee with 2 state board members.
- Be prepared to meet by conference call or in-person to
discuss nominations.
- Review nominations in order to recommend candidates for
the open offices
- Assist in recruiting nominees as needed.
