Nominations for 2008
Women as Agents of Change Award

Purpose:  AAUW-Minnesota seeks to recognize women who, through their volunteer efforts, have advanced the status and equity of women, thus supporting AAUW’s mission of promoting equity for all women and girls, lifelong learning and positive societal change.

Nomination Guidelines:  Any Branch may nominate one woman whose activity of “making a difference” for women and girls has taken place during the past two years.  The nominee need not be an AAUW member; however, preference for the award will be given to members.  A woman may receive this award one time only, and no award need be given if the guidelines and criteria are not met. Nominations should be typed or legibly printed on the enclosed form. Up to, but not over, two additional one-sided pages may be submitted in support of the nomination. Nominations must be postmarked on or before March 31, 2008.

Evaluation Criteria:  The President of AAUW-Minnesota shall chair a committee of appointed members.  Applications will be judged upon successful satisfaction of the nomination guidelines, evidence of activity, and impact of the change activity. The committee will consider the number of people affected by the change, the duration or long term effect of the change, and the significance of the change to the community.

Award Presentation:  AAUW-Minnesota will present the award at its State Convention Banquet on Saturday, April 26, 2008, in St Paul, Minnesota. Awardees will be guests of AAUW-Minnesota at the banquet.  Transportation to the banquet is the responsibility of the nominating branch or awardee.

Areas of Activities:  Following are some of the areas of volunteer activity in which a nominee may be involved. This is not intended to be all-inclusive, but may help stimulate thinking about women in your community who deserve the award.

- involve women in leadership roles in the community or provide opportunities for leadership skill development for women
-increase self-esteem of or enhance society’s perceptions of women and girls.
-increase the participation of women and girls in non-traditional roles or career fields

 3. Leadership in cultural areas-efforts that:

-recognize women in the fine arts, such as architects, painters, sculptors, musicians, writers
