The Fairmont Branch has had a motivating and busy year with
varied programs and our
biennial fundraising events.
Senator Julie Rosen presented a fascinating program on
immigration and legislation to
combat methamphetamine use in Minnesota. A related presentation
was given by the program
director of Harbor Home in Fairmont, which allows mothers and
their children to live together in
a supportive facility while the moms are recovering from
addiction to meth. This facility received
a grant from the state with help from Senator Rosen. Our branch
is helping by providing needed
items, including a digital camera, and looking to becoming
mentors and presenters of specific
topic programming for the mothers.
The Tour of Homes fundraiser, which our branch has held since
1964, involved the entire
membership in planning and executing this event. We featured
five area homes on the tour and
sold over 300 tickets. The funds from this tour support our
contributions to education, including
the AAUW Educational Foundation and the Fairmont branch's two
annual scholarships, one
undergraduate and one graduate, offered through our local
Dollars for Scholars program.
As our branch grows, so does our commitment to the education and
growth of all women.
