At our November 2006 general meeting we celebrated the
anniversary of the founding of
AAUW with birthday cakes. We enjoyed extensive news coverage of
the event in the local newspaper
– The Herald Review. Our newsletter, Timberline, featured an
article from two of our
founders. Our branch started in 1949. These two founders told
the story of the branch's early
years and of activities over the years. We are fortunate to
still have three of the founders as
members. Two of them are very active.
Our May 2007 general meeting will focus on the nearly 60 years
of our branch history.
The evening will begin with a social hour, followed by dinner
and a program, including music,
photos, a “vintage” style show and skit that will take us on a
memory walk. The Gala will also
offer members several options for contributions to the
anniversary scholarship. One of those
options is for members to “donate their age or weight or both.”
We established a 2006-2007 membership goal of 100 members. In
December 2006 we
met this goal. As of February 2007 we are at 104 members and
growing. New member “coffees”
are held at the beginning of each program year to familiarize
new members with programs and
activities of the branch. At the end of each program year,
members who have joined in the
preceding months are invited to a supper---usually at the home
of the branch president. In this
informal setting, members are asked to offer evaluations and
suggestions for program
improvements and membership efforts.
In July 2006 our branch joined with the MacRostie Art Center to
hold a luncheon in
conjunction with their annual Garden Tour.
