Metro West - Best of the Branches 2006-07Our branch had many interesting programs this year, among them Ron Peluso of the Great Minnesota History Theater speaking on future productions, Immigration attorney Phillip Fishman speaking on new rules and policies being proposed in Congress, and State Representative Maria Ruud on upcoming legislation and being a woman in the state house. After a program with the Minnetonka Orchestra in December, members met in January with Barbara Wiener, a speaker at our last state convention, who presented her program on Tvby Girls. In February we listed to Craig Edwards explain weather phenomenon and likely effects of global warming – a sobering recital. In March, we celebrated Women's History Month with our annual Women's Essay Contest for students from Grades 6 through 12 who wrote about “Influential Women – Then and Now.” Many members feel it is a highlight of the year to hear prize winners read their essays at a public program. We'll round out our year with a potluck dinner in April and a program on “The Health Care Mess: How We Got Into It and How We'll Get Out of It.” In May, our two book clubs will enjoy getting ready for summer by getting ideas from Stu Wilson of the Minnesota Book Awards.
