Minneapolis Best of the Branches 2006-07
Best Long-Range Planning Strategy
The Minneapolis Branch applied for and received 501(c)(3) status in October 2006!
This tax-exempt status allows donors who make gifts to our Branch to take a “charitable
contributions” deduction in computing their own income or gift/estate tax. (Member dues are not
tax-deductible.) We hope this will encourage members to make gifts to the Branch that can assist
in the upkeep and maintenance of the Gale Mansion, our meeting home.
Best Use of New AAUW Mission in Planning
The Minneapolis Branch initiated a strategic planning process to define how we live out the
new AAUW Mission Statement and to guide the future of the Branch.
It began with a brainstorming session with the membership (about 90 people attended)
where they were charged to think about the branch in 3-5 years and discuss what they would like
to see happen. Their ideas were sorted and grouped, and what emerged were four categories:
Facilities, Program, Membership, Financial Resources.
The Board held a retreat to
*Define how we live out the new AAUW mission and vision
*Identify our core values
*Develop goals for the upcoming years in the four categories
The next step is the development of work plans for each goal which we will use to measure our
progress.
