Rochester - Best of the Branches - 06-07 During the summer of 2006, we initiated our Web site (aauwrochestermn.org). In November we began our celebration of AAUW's 125 th year. We sent a news release tothe local newspaper which resulted in a small article. We contacted the mayor, and November 28, 2006 was proclaimed AAUW Day in Rochester, an event covered by KAAL News, Channel 6. The Noon Luncheon Continuing Education group celebrated the anniversary with a cake and a program highlighting women who have been awarded the Achievement Award. We continued our celebration at our January meeting with a “Visit from Marion Talbot” by Pat Sween. On March 6, our Branch participated in the local Science Fair. We had three volunteers who helped judge the projects, and we awarded prizes to two young women, one middle school project and one high school project. On March 17, we held our annual EF luncheon, honoring Science Fair winners and three branch members for our named grants. Our speaker was Vivian Williams on “Computers, The Internet, and I-Pods: How New Media is Changing Education.” On March 24, our second College is Possible Day was held at Rochester Community and Technical College. This is a free half-day college planning event sponsored by our Branch, the Olmsted County Youth Commission, and the college. During the past year, we had a silent auction, used book sale, and “canisters for LAF” in benefit of the Legal Advocacy Fund. For EF, we participated in the Apache Mall Evening of Giving fundraising event as well as the State AAUW Raffle. For our community projects, we participated in Herberger's Community Days events.
