Willmar - Best of the Branches 2006-07

What better way to honor AAUW's 125th Anniversary than to celebrate our own important

events! September brought recognition of 60 years as a branch of AAUW with both a historical

perspective and a projection for the future. The newspaper articles and pictures became the basis

for decorating our annual Christmas tree at the County Historical Society Festive Forest (check it

out as part of the convention branch displays!).

In October, we celebrated the 500th meeting of our branch with Carol James, State Vice

President Program, sharing ideas for another milestone for Willmar, the AAUW state convention.

We last hosted this event in Willmar in 1977.

December brought our annual Christmas party shared with the local Girls Group Home in

an historic building in downtown Willmar. These girls join us at our regular monthly meetings to

hear interesting programs, and we visit their home with Bingo and prizes several times a year.

Our mantra is always: “Stay in school!”

We have just completed another successful used book sale at a local shopping mall with

dollars going to the AAUW Educational Foundation and a local scholarship for a Ridgewater

College woman student who plans to continue her education for a four-year degree.

The Willmar branch has celebrated all year long the privilege it is to be a member of the

state AAUW and to have one of our own, Beverly Crute, attain the honor of being the state

president.
